The mission of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club (ABCG) is to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Founded in 1949, ABGC has been providing high-impact, affordable youth development programs and services for youth ages 6-18. ABCG is open to all youth from all schools and backgrounds, every day and evening after school and during school vacations. We specifically target low-income and at-risk youth to provide them with equality of opportunity and prepare them for a great future.

Daily programming at the ABGC focuses on Education & Career Development; Character & Leadership; Health & Life Skills; STEM & Technology; Fine & Performing Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. We also provide on-site vision and respiratory clinics as well as small group counseling sessions for all youth. Participation in these programs and services improve the lives of our members as it teaches them the skills they need to achieve academic and professional success and also how to become confident, healthy and contributing members of society. Since 1949, we have changed the lives of over 70,000 children and last year we served just over 4,000 Alameda youth. We turn no child or family away due to lack of funds. Many alumnus of our organization have gone on to become contributors to society such as business leaders, law enforcement, doctors, lawyers, etc. Our reach extends even beyond our four walls as many other youth agencies and community partners collaborate with our organization so we may provide a larger impact on our youth members. For example, members of the Boy Scouts of America have volunteered their labor by working in our edible garden for their final organizational project, helping to sustain the catalyst of our healthy gardening and cooking program. Members of the Girl Scouts of America have worked with our members teaching them beginner’s guitar lessons and corporate partners like Google and VF Outdoor host employee volunteer days where they hold all-day recreational and creative activities for our youth members, helping them develop skills in areas like team building, leadership and physical fitness.
