HeritX's mission is to change the world by preventing cancer rather than seeking to treat it once it appears. We start with groundbreaking research to intervene in the pre-cancer development process with inherited BRCA cancers.

People with BRCA mutations face an up to 90% risk of not only one, but multiple cancers including breast, ovarian, prostate, pancreatic and melanoma. Fiction would not write stories where four out of five siblings are diagnosed with cancer before their children complete grade school … or where a father and a daughter have simultaneous mastectomies and go through chemotherapy together ... or where a father is diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer months after the birth of his child. Yet for families with BRCA mutations, these stories happen every day. Right now, the only way off the endless cycle of cancer is for women to remove their ovaries and breasts to reduce the risk of two of the most common cancers. These surgeries have dramatic consequences, leaving women unable to nurse babies and with the side effects of surgical menopause.
You can help us change the stories in these families by supporting HeritX. The identifiable genetic mutations that cause these cancers provide a unique opportunity to identify and stop the earliest steps in the development of cancer. How? Because unlike with most cancers, we know the origin of these cancer. It is the inherited genetic mutation that people carry from birth. We can focus today’s unprecedented knowledge and technology on what is happening in the normal cells of people with BRCA mutations and find ways to intervene to prevent cancers from developing. We can then apply those advances to prevent other inherited and non-inherited cancers. BRCA mutations provide an opportunity to change the paradigm in cancer, from treatment to prevention. We hope you will join us on this journey to transform cancer into a disease that can be prevented.
