Beyond its winery fame, the Elqui Valley is also something of an eclectic combination of quaint villages and new age mysticism. From UFO sightings to cutting edge observatories, travelers flock here to stargaze as well as try and learn more about the mysteries that the Elqui Valley holds.
Three prominent observatories can be found in this region—all extremely popular with tourists. Observatorio Cerro Mamalluca offers guests a 30cm telescope through which they get to gaze at stars in nearby galaxies. Its crystal-clear skies (some of the clearest in the world for 320+ days a year) make for an optimal viewing experience.
A popular destination in the region, Pisco Elqui was renamed in honor of the most famous beverage to come out of the area. It’s a small village that truly does pack in a lot. Take a horseback ride through the mountains, enjoy the quaint restaurants and of course the flowing beverages!
