About 600 miles off of Ecuador’s coast you will find the famed Galapagos islands. Consisting of approximately 19 islands, its pristine and largely untouched landscape makes for an incredible adventure. The scenery ranges from white sandy beaches, to volcanic rock formations, to barren stretches of nature.
You can only access the islands with a licensed guide and your trip can be booked as a private day excursion or there are also guided tours leaving from Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz. This truly is a legendary experience, made famous by Charles Darwin, during which you have the chance to see wildlife not seen anywhere else.
  • PENGUINS AND TORTOISES

The famous Galapagos penguins are a huge draw for nature lovers who visit the islands. Largely located on Tagus Cove, on Isabela they are certainly a must-see part of the islands. Also, a huge component of the wildlife makeup of Isabela are the Giant Tortoises. A breeding center in Puerto Villamil even allows you to hold a tortoise egg.

  • DIVING & SNORKELING

It’s not just on the land that you will find amazing species of wildlife. Diving and snorkeling are a huge part of why people visit the Galapagos islands. People have swum right beside sea lions, they’ve been able to see whale sharks as well as hammerheads.

  • SIERRA NEGRA

One of the most active volcanoes on the islands, Sierra Negra rises to a height of 1124 m. Most recently it began erupting in June 2018. Tours explore the rim of the caldera and the lava fields next to the main crater.
