Perhaps tops on the list of experiences is exploring Lake Bayano. Famous for its inimitable bat caves and rock formations, many spend days on the lake be it boating, hiking or even ziplining. The Darien region is also home to the Embara whose traditional ways and colorful handicrafts make for a truly interesting encounter.
BAYANO BAT CAVES
This is one of the most popular draws in the region. Travelers wade into the waters of the lake entering into the famous bat caves. Not only are there bats however, it is not uncommon to come across a howler monkey or two. And the rock formations are out of this world.
Encompassing 1.4 million acres, this is by far the largest of Central America’s national parks. Given the at times rougher terrain as well as the sheer expansiveness of the park, it is highly recommended to visit it with a guide. The area is home to numerous wildlife species including: ocelots, anteaters and sloths.
Arguably one of the most popular sport fishing destinations on the planet, Pinas Bay also offers great coastline to explore. There are several restaurants and places to stay right there, making this highly popular with travelers.
