Keteka is a marketplace where travelers can book unique, authentic tours and activities with validated local guides. While serving in the Peace Corps in rural Panama, the founders were working on community tourism projects and realized that they wanted to create a better way to connect purposeful travelers with authentic, local experiences. "Keteka" is an indigenous Panamanian word that means "to get close to" and that's our goal, to bring you closer to your destination's culture, food, people, and natural environment.
A Local Artisan Woman Will Show You Why San Juan Comalpa Is Now Famous For Being One Of The Best Places To Buy Wovens.
A local San Juan Comalpa weaver will be delighted to show you how the town of San Juan became known as one of the best places to purchase woven textiles. She will show you their traditional natural dye process and how they weave their natural fibers into beautiful works of art on a backstrap loom. It is mind boggling process, involving the counting of hundreds of threads with the women holding the patterns to their designs in their minds! You’ll have a chance to explore the town after the presentation. You’ll be guaranteed to leave with a much greater appreciation for the time and thought that goes into making each piece.
