While serving in the Peace Corps in rural Panama, the founders were working on community tourism projects and realized that they wanted to create a better way to connect purposeful travelers with authentic, local experiences. "Keteka" is an indigenous Panamanian word that means "to get close to" and that's our goal, to bring you closer to your destination's culture, food, people, and natural environment.
This Two Day Immersion Stay With A Local Family In A Coffee Cooperative Will Show You The Process From Bean To Table.
Duration: 2 days and 1 night
Day 1: Coffee Crop
The first day you go to a coffee cooperative where you participate in harvesting, pulping and fermentation of coffee. You’ll learn about important topics and how they effect livelihoods, such as fair trade, coffee market, and historical trends. You join a local family for dinner and spend the night at their home.
Day 2: The Coffee Route, from farm to the world
On the second day you visit a dry mill to see the industrial process of drying, threshing and coffee selection. You learn what it takes to be ready for export. At last, participate in a tasting session in the quality control laboratory to assess the characteristics of one of the best coffees in the world.
Your tour ends in Matagalpa.
