A veritable hidden gem in southwest New Mexico, Silver City is home to the Western New Mexico University Mustangs. Because the university is a big part of the region, there is a very eclectic and what some might call funky vibe here.
The city takes pride in its downtown scene. Walk through any time, day or night, and you will find gallery upon gallery, live musical performances, some delectable restaurants and tons of local shops. Of course, Silver City is also great for outdoor lovers; with ample parks, national forest land and even gigantic rocks formed as a result of volcanoes, there is a lot to see and do.
  • MOUNTAIN BIKING

Silver City is big for mountain bikers. They host the Signal Peak Mountain Bike Challenge. As far as trails go, bikers can ride through The Continental Divide Trail, Gila National Forest, as well as through some of the most scenic canyon areas in Grant County.

  • HOT SPRINGS

Many come to Silver City for the abundance of hot springs. These popular attractions can range in temperature between 95 and 110 degrees. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, they really are paradise. Check out Faywood Hot Springs along with Gila Hot Springs and Sundial Springs.

  • FOOD

A self-proclaimed foodie haven, Silver City restaurants have been repeatedly featured in New Mexico Magazine and even in the New York Times. For those looking for a bona fide New Mexican culinary experience, this is apparently the place to visit.

THE WEATHER
  • Winter is relatively slow, but the town does have some fun holiday celebrations. Silver City isn't very far from the Mexican border, and winter highs remain in the 50s.

  • Spring offers great weather, with highs in the 70s and plenty of sunshine. The season's premier event is the Silver City Blues Festival.

  • Summer is warm, but not terribly hot. The highs tend to be in the mid-80s. July and August are the rainiest months of the year.

  • Fall is a prime time to visit. October highs are in the 70s and the season is much drier than summer. September and October are packed full of festivals.
