Located in North Texas horse country, Denton is both a cowboy’s paradise and a hipster’s haven. How does it manage this dual identity…the city welcomes a diverse range of people and offers them plenty to do. Music is huge in Denton. The Jazz Festival is a major draw, while the 35 Denton Music Festival has been headlined by some definite hit-making groups including the Flaming Lips. The festival draws in nearly half a million people.
Denton is very much a college town. As Denton is home to the University of North Texas and the Texas Women’s University, students lend their youthful energy and flair to the city scene. In 2014, it was named the #1 up-and-coming cultural hotspot in Texas by the Huffington Post.
  • DENTON SQUARE

The center of the city, Denton Square, is home to numerous museums, shops and restaurants. It’s also a great place to check out twilight concerts featuring all sorts of locally grown bands and singers.

  • FISHING

With a couple of pristine lakes nearby, Denton has plenty to keep the avid angler busy. They have played host to the Major League Fishing Championships in years past.

  • NIGHTLIFE

Thanks to the always active college kids, the downtown scene at night is geared to accommodate. Plenty of bars and live music venues line the downtown streets. Fry Street is particularly popular with UNT students. While in terms of eating out, they offer just about everything you can imagine, to include some of the best Mexican food in Texas.

THE WEATHER
  • Winters are fairly mild with daily highs in the 50s. There isn't a whole lot to do.

  • May temps are in the low-80s but it is one of the two rainiest months of the year (also, October). If visiting in the spring, plan around graduation weekend.

  • Summers can be a bit of a slow time with school out, but Lake Ray Roberts is a hot spot ironically to beat the heat.

  • October temps are near 80 degrees but it is fairly rainy.
