Walla Walla is in southeast Washington, about 150 miles south of Spokane. The city has a rich history and the stories are maintained in local museums. Walla Walla has a charming downtown district, centered around Main Street, which is laced with character. Whitman College and Walla Walla University are both liberal arts schools that are in the city. Walla Walla activities are largely centered around a thriving wine industry and the arts.
  • WINE

    Walla Walla has an up-and-coming wine industry. The area has over 120 wineries and several wine events throughout the year. A few of the popular events include Spring Release Weekend (early May), Celebrate Walla Walla Valley Wine (June), Fall Release Weekend (early November) and Holiday Barrel Tasting (first weekend of December).

  • RECREATION

    Not only is the mild and dry climate good for wine, it is also ideal conditions for golfing. Wine Valley Golf Club (even the golf clubs are named after wine) was ranked as #5 nationally on the Best New Golf Club list from Golf Magazine. The area has a handful of other golf courses. The rolling hills draw in cyclists as well. Many tours combine the love for wine and biking.

  • PERFORMING ARTS

    For a small city, Walla Walla surprisingly has some great options for theater and other performing arts. The top venues are the Power House Theatre, Little Theatre of Walla Walla. The Walla Walla Symphony has been operating since 1907.

THE WEATHER
  • Winters are cool but fairly mild, with daily highs reaching the 40s. The area does get an additional freeze, which can be brutal on the wineries' production. Walla Walla has some holiday celebrations, but winter is generally the slow time to visit.

  • Spring is relatively wet, but much dryer than coastal Washington. The weather warms up quickly. April and May can be good times to visit for the wine release events.

  • Summers are warm and dry, with daily highs in the high 80s and low 90s. Summers are great for those looking to play outside.

  • Falls are mild. October temperatures still reach the mid- to upper 60s. Fall can be a good time to visit for the wine release events and comfortable weather.
